A walk-behind tractor is a type of small tractor. In Europe and the U.S., it’s called a garden tractor. It’s a versatile walking machine mainly used for towing and transportation, made up of an engine, chassis, electrical system, and more. The walk-behind tractor relies on the power of an internal combustion engine, which passes through the transmission system to drive the wheels, and then the tire treads apply a small backward horizontal force (tangential force) to the ground. This reaction force is what powers the tractor forward (also called thrust). It has a simple structure and relatively low power, making it suitable for small plots of farmland. The operator holds the handles to control the operating mechanisms, towing or driving attached farming tools for plowing, rotary tilling, sowing, harvesting, trenching, irrigation, threshing, transportation, and various other tasks.
